It is normal to experience some level of anxiety when you visit the dentist. At Engineered Smiles, we provide our patients with a comfortable, friendly environment in which they can relax and feel calm. We take pride in offering our patients reliable, excellent dental care with skill and compassion.
Some individuals will have a heightened sense of anxiety, despite the calming environment. The idea of visiting the dentist causes these patients to have feelings of dread and foreboding. These feelings may come from past negative experiences in a dental office, fear of small spaces or a number of other factors. In fact, there are individuals who avoid the dentist at all costs because of fear and anxiety. Their oral health suffers greatly as a result.
If this could be you, the dental team at Engineered Smiles understands. We offer conscious sedation dentistry so you can have your dental work performed and feel relaxed and calm. You do not need to suffer through toothaches or allow your teeth to go bad because of your feelings of anxiety.
Oral Conscious Sedation
This form of sedation is administered with a medication which you take prior to your dental procedure. The medication produces a type of twilight feeling. You are able to respond to questions and instructions. However, you can expect to feel a little drowsy, though the medication will not put you to sleep. You should come prepared to have someone drive you home after your procedure. Oral sedation requires some recovery time before you leave the office. You should not drive or operate any machinery after taking this medication until you are fully recovered.
Nitrous Oxide
This type of sedation has been used for over a century and is most commonly known as laughing gas. Nitrous oxide helps you relax without losing consciousness and is a lighter level of sedation than oral conscious sedation. This type of sedation is often used on children who feel anxious in the dental chair. You can expect to feel a little drowsy and euphoric. It is administered through a mask, and when the procedure is completed, oxygen is used to flush the nitrous oxide from your system. Recovery is immediate, and within minutes you will feel like your normal self again.
With sedation options available, you can conquer your anxieties about visiting the dentist. Dr. Wang and his team are gentle and compassionate and provide friendly, patient-centered care.
